Sufism Has spread around the world and is often embraced by Westerners especially more readily than mainstream Islam. The Indian-born Sufi master Hazrat Inayat Khan (1882-1927), the first major Sufi figure to come to the West, brought his teachings to America in the 1920s. The earliest appearance of Sufism in America goes back to the migration of some Albanian Muslims to North America in the first part of the twentieth century, and to such South Asian Sufis as Hazrat Inayat Khan and Bawa Muhyiddin .
